A Super Bowl victory gave Doug Pederson and Howie Roseman more job security.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed their coach and executive vice president of football operations to contract extensions through the 2022 season. Pederson, a longtime backup quarterback in the NFL, came to Philadelphia the first time in 1999 as a starter for Andy Reid. He groomed rookie Donovan McNabb that season and spent several more years in the NFL. Pederson began his coaching career as an assistant under Reid in 2009, followed Reid to Kansas City in 2013 and was hired by the Eagles to replace Chip Kelly in 2016.

He guided a team that overcame numerous injuries last season to a 41-33 victory over Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. The Eagles were led by backup quarterback Nick Foles after Carson Wentz sustained a season-ending knee injury in Week 14.

The Green Bay Packers' acquisition of linebacker Antonio Morrison from the Indianapolis Colts had as much to do with the season-ending knee injury suffered by Jake Ryan a month ago as Oren Burks' recent shoulder injury.

"That's what it's looking like," Burks said. "But at the same time, just trying to take it one day at a time and do the rehab."

Martini, who was more of a special-teams standout at Notre Dame Ted Ginn Jr Jersey , and Thomas, who played safety at Oklahoma, rotated in with Martinez throughout the first half at Oakland. They'll get the bulk of the playing time in Thursday night's preseason finale at Kansas City.

"Super proud of them," Burks said. "It's a new opportunity. Like when I had to step up, it's time for them to step up."

General manager Brian Gutekunst dealt from a position of strength to bolster a position of weakness by dealing cornerback Lenzy Pipkins. Pipkins flashed potential in 12 games last season, which included extensive action in both games against Minnesota.

But with Gutekunst adding Tramon Williams in free agency and using his first two draft picks on Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson, Pipkins became expendable.
