After the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night Color Rush Keenan Allen Jersey , Charger fans were likely celebrating long into the night (cough...cough...KYLE POSEY) after their improbable selection of Florida State safety Derwin James at #17.When the final seconds of the clock ticked away signaling the end of the third round on Friday night, the LA faithful were left with a much more sour taste in their mouth. After riding an enormous high into day 2, it feels as if most of the optimism going into day 3 stems from the old saying “we can only go up from here”.The selections of former USC linebacker Uchenna Nwosu and North Carolina State defensive tackle were definitely ones of need, but they, unfortunately, felt a tad bittersweet. To me, they were just the right players but at the wrong time.Obviously, time will tell with all of these prospects but that won’t stop me from being overly optimistic once again as the Chargers maneuver through rounds four through seven today. Here is a short list of targets I would like to see the Chargers consider on this final day of the NFL Draft:Kyle Fitts, EDGE, UtahFitts would be a local-area product that could make some sense in the fourth or fifth round after the Chargers recently rescinded the tender placed on DE Chris McCain. The 6-foot-4, 264-pound, Fitts was a Senior Bowl invite and most recently worked out for the Chargers at their local pro day before visiting with the team afterward.Tyrell Crosby Youth Russell Okung Jersey , Offensive Tackle, OregonCrosby has been one of the most surprising prospects to see still available on the third day of the draft. As one of the better run maulers in this class, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Chargers invest in a player who could come in and start immediately at the right tackle position.Josey Jewell, Inside Linebacker, IowaNot an incredible athlete at the position but a phenomenal football player, nonetheless. One of only several linebackers in Iowa history to amass over 400 career tackles in his career. Jewell always seems to be around the ball and posted one of the best 3-cone drills at the combine at 6.80 seconds. Would battle for a starting middle linebacker position from day one.Kalen Ballage, Running Back, Arizona StateIt’s hard to feel super confident in Ballage as a potential starter in the NFL when he spent his time at Arizona State splitting carries with another back who isn’t getting much draft publicity at all. However, Ballage possesses elite size and speed for the position and has the versatility to be utilized as a third-down back or in the slot which will help keep defenses on their toes. If he learns to run with the pop of a 230-pound back, he could be a heck of a player in Anthony Lynn’s offense.Daurice Fountain, Wide Receiver, Northern IowaA big-bodied receiver that would have blown the doors off the combine if he were invited. After posting a 42-inch vertical jump and dominating the competition at the FCS level and at the East-West Shrine game Youth Dan Feeney Jersey , Fountain has checked off all of the boxes necessary to be considered a potential steal of the draft. Regardless of whether you believe the Chargers wide receiver room to be crowded or not, you can never have enough pass-catchers who can go up and come down with 50-50 balls.Nick Hardwick Steps Down as Chargers Color Analyst Nick Hardwick has decided to not return as the Los Angeles Chargers color analyst next season. He worked with Matt “Money” Smith in the team’s first season in the radio booth. On the team website, Hardwick explained his decision to leave the booth after three seasons. In total, Hardwick has been with Chargers as a player or broadcaster for 15 seasons. This is a big life change for a man who has been heavily involved in the Bolts community.Immediately after the Chargers moved from Los Angeles, Hardwick shunned the organization. Stating his displeasure in the team’s controversial decision to skip town. Six months later he accepted the role as color analyst for the Chargers radio broadcasts. With his job at San Diego radio station XTRA 1360, he and his wife’s ownership of a San Diego gym and a growing family, Hardwick couldn't commit to the move to Hollywood. Despite the backlash he may have received for working for the team after trying to distance himself, Hardwick has kept his finger on the pulse of the franchise for a long time. His opinion has weight. The Chargers suddenly have a new vacancy in the booth. Will the team play it safe with a former San Diego great? Ladainian Tomlinson has worked closely with ownership after the move, could he want to try his hand as a color commentator? There will be plenty of options in the massive L.A. market. Who would you like to see take over?
